BLIK was founded in Poland in 2015, and is a member of the European Mobile Payment Systems Association. It’s accepted in over 32 countries, including Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, and the United Kingdom, as well as many online retailers like Amazon and eBay.
BLIK charges merchants $0.10 per transaction and $0.75 per transaction for businesses with over 2 locations. It also charges consumers $0.15 per transaction plus 1% of the value of each purchase.
BLIK offers a number of solutions for merchants and consumers, including BLIK card readers and mobile apps for both iOS and Android. Consumers can add funds to their accounts by using credit cards or PayPal accounts; there are no fees involved in adding or removing funds from an account.
The mobile app allows consumers to pay after scanning a QR code at the point of sale, or by tapping their phone against the register’s terminal. To make online payments, the consumer selects BLIK as their payment option at the website checkout; they’ll receive a one-time PIN to complete the transaction.
BLIK uses state-of-the-art encryption technology to protect all sensitive information stored on the consumer’s mobile device. It also uses biometric data and PINs to ensure transactions are legitimate.
