SOFORT was founded in Germany in 2005. It’s one of the most used payment methods in Austria and Germany, and has plans to deepen its market share in other countries, especially in northern Europe. Currently, SOFORT is available in Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
SOFORT allows customers to pay for goods and services directly from their bank account, without having to enter any sensitive information into the checkout page. Instead, users connect their SOFORT account with their bank account. At the point of sale, when they select SOFORT as their payment option, they enter their email address or phone number and hit submit.
Customers then receive a message from SOFORT asking for confirmation before their purchase goes through, which makes it more secure than entering their card info online or even on-site (because then someone could steal that info).
SOFORT uses the highest security standards available today, including two-factor authentication and SSL encryption on every transaction. The company also offers additional features like an app for mobile payments and a virtual card that can be used at any time without an internet connection or mobile data plan.
