What is fallback routing?

Fallback routing automatically retries a declined transaction through a different provider or acquirer when the first attempt fails. Instead of losing the sale to a soft decline, the transaction is re routed in the background, often within seconds, and many otherwise failed payments end up approved. Fallback is one of the highest impact features of payment orchestration because it recovers revenue you'd otherwise lose entirely.
